Welcome to Herne Bay Sailing Club

We are a family friendly sailing club and enjoy some of the best sailing waters on the North Kent coast.

Less than 15 minutes from the end of the M2 motorway and 45 minutes from the M25, our favourable location and our own slipway access mean that we are able to launch and recover at most states of the tide.

We have members of all ages and abilities, and anyone interested in sailing with us can be sure of receiving plenty of help and encouragement.

Club Week Silly Race Day

 Hi folks

As you know Club Week for the cadets starts on Wednesday 4th August, the cruise is on Tuesday 3rd and on the Monday 2nd August we have decided that those single handed Ladies and Gentlemen who wish to have a series of mini fun races can do so on the Monday.  Obviously if adults wish to just sail their own boats, then please go for it.  A Volunteer safety boat crew would be ideal?

He and Mark are at present sailing in the World Championships this week in Carnac and have already got a 4th and 6th leaving them in 9th place after 2 days.

Mark and Paul got 6th place overall against the best B14 sailors in the world.

Herne Bay Sailing Club is leading the way for deaf children

Deaf children aged 6 – 17 years from across Kent were invited to a sailing day, which took place at Herne Bay Sailing Club on Saturday 10 July.  Besides the spectacle of lots of boats full of visitors being seen to enjoy themselves on the water the club’s contingent of cadets also had a large fleet on the water providing a wonderful demonstration of what the club does so well, i.e. encouraging youngsters to enjoy themselves in healthy out door pursuits.

Jim Newbery Invitation Race 04/07/2010

The Jim Newbery Invitational race is run annually at Herne Bay Sailing Club for present and ex-members of the club.  Jim was once Commodore and continued to be a figurehead for all that was good at the club for many years.

Ladies Wot Launch

Ladies! Would you like to spend more time out on the water, sailing in the company of friends, and learning from each other?

This season, we have introduced "Ladies wot Launch" - a group of ladies of all ages and sailing abilities who get together most Fridays for a relaxed and informal sailing session, planned around the school day, and with a break for lunch.

Join us on Fridays at the clubhouse, for coffee, cakes and a chat, and let's get some ideas and plans together. Pre-school children are welcome too!

If you're interested, or have any thoughts or suggestions regarding what you'd like to see happening with Ladies wot Launch, then please come along on friday or get in touch with Claire either at the club, by phone on 07830 097334 or Email

Long Distance Race 2010

On a day of glorious sunshine when it looked more like the South of France than Herne Bay after we had encountered a week of rain and dreary weather the 2010 ‘Long Distance’ race started in a force 3 with gusts of 4 and 5 around Herne Bay pier.  The gusts took out some promising starters in the guise of Paul Smith and Henry Hickson in their 29er who capsized along with the Brown duo of Elliot and Mark in their Laser Vago.
