As those of you who were there will know, we were unable to complete the laying of the slipway on Saturday due to problems with the securing bars.
A huge vote of thanks is due to the team who struggled valiantly to overcome the problems, but who were eventually beaten by the tide - never has the saying "time and tide wait for no man" been more appropriate!
Work is now in hand to repair the offending bars, and the Sailing Committee have asked me to let you all know that the new date to complete the slipway laying has been set for 2nd April (Easter Friday), starting at 8.30. Please make every effort to be there, as we were short on numbers on Saturday. We need all the help we can get if we are to get the slipway laid in time for the Easter Bonnet Race in the afternoon of the 2nd.
This of course means that the Opening Splash race scheduled for the 28th March has had to be cancelled, and those rota'd for Race Office, Safety Boat and Galley duties should note this in particular. We will try to run the Easter Bonnet Race on the 2nd April but, as noted above, this will depend largely on getting enough helpers to lay the slipway in time.
On the brighter side, we will be running an alternative Slipway-Laying Supper on the evening of 2nd April, when Jane, Jeni, Steve and I will be running a "Spud-U-Like" evening, offering Jacket Potatoes with a variety of fillings - so come along and help out with the slipway laying to build up an appetite for the supper!
Look forward to seeing you then
