Herne Bay Sailing Club

Family Sailing at its best
Joining the club

Members and prospective members should go to this page to renew membership or to join.

Members are able to keep dinghies, spars and sails at the club, subject to payment of the appropriate fee. You might also enjoy kayaking and you will be able to keep your kayak at the club. We also have a couple of club kayaks which can be hired by members..

Not really fond of getting wet? Why not become a social member of the club and enjoy a pint or glass of something watching the sunset while pitching in to help us when we need an extra pair of hands.

New here ?

However, you don't need to have a boat to join the club. We have some boats for hire and you can find out how to go about that here. As well as hiring out boats, we have a selection of wetsuits, spray tops and buoyancy aids that are available for you to borrow for a small donation. All this gives you the opportunity to try sailing and get a taste for life on the waves without buying a lot of kit.
There's lots of opportunities to get to know people, over a slice of cake at the galley or a post race drink at the bar. Once you're a member, you can start a prepay tab at the galley so that you don't have to worry about where to put your wallet in your wetsuit!

Part of our club ethos is that we all help each other out. So, as a new member, you will choose two/three dates to turn up for duties every year in either the galley, the safety boat or the race tower. If you're not sure what to do, don't worry; people will show you the ropes. You will be able to choose your duties via the duty portal, where you can also ask to swap your duty if you can't make it.

Here at the club we like to make sure everyone is safe, too. So you will have a chance to go round the building by way of an induction with the Commodore soon after joining.

Any questions? Ask a member when you're at the club or email : hernebaysailing@btconnect.com
