Laser Special Handicap
The Special Handicaps were calculated on personal performance using Colin Smith as the "scratch" boat and the slowest boats being given a 5 minute advantage over the course of a 45 minute race and the rest of the fleet on a graduated basis in between. These figures were converted into PY numbers and differentiated according to the rig used. The race was run as part of the Spring Series race 7 on Sunday 7th May. There was a good turnout of 12 boats and the northwesterly wind was a moderating Force 3. Colin led the way on the water but was unable to shake off Richard and Guy and the margin at the end was insufficient to overcome the personal handicaps they had been allocated. It was a day for the Standard rigs and the Radials generally came off worse with Gary coming in as top Radial on the day. Final Results are here. Mid-day and Spring 7 and 8 Congratulations to Graham who did enough to secure the top spot in the Spring Series overall. Smithy won the Mid-day series race that kicked off at mid-day in fresher winds and again in the Spring 8 when he got away from the fleet at the start and with the wind strength falling away was back in the clubhouse whilst half the fleet did not make it round the windward mark in time and ended up retiring and being towed home! Michael and Sam were pipped in mid-day race but got the line honours over Smithy in Spring 7 and Luke and Doug claimed a great second place in Spring 8. The course did not favour the asymmetrics so they did a good job. You can see all the results on the website.
