PTBO 2017 at HBSC was a great success with 38 visitors out for a sail and powerboat ride, more who stayed shore-side supporting and a fantastic turn out of members and friends who made the day work so well on and off the water. Thank you to everyone who took part and to those who did the necessary before and afterwards.
It was a great day with lots of activity. The Saturday Sailing improvers group were on and (most of them) in the water during the morning because of the somewhat challenging gusts. Dai eventually got us doing the planned activity of race starts and working out line bias, after some reefing and pulling everything tighter made falling in less likely. Some 20 cadets and their families arrived at lunchtime to join in with PTBO and all got out on the water. The King's School had their 420's out too. Everyone enjoyed the conditions, which had calmed a little after lunch, but had the extra complication of a ripping tide taking the unwary to Reculver. The only casualty of the day was the distance mark pole, which took a hit in the morning and then another in the afternoon. The smiles of all those coming off the water pretty much summed up the day. Quotes from the day: "loved it", "wet" and "holiday atmosphere." We hope to welcome some of the visitors again, at Cadets, as members or on one of our training courses.
