Herne Bay Sailing Club hosted the 2016 Les Golding Memorial Run on Sunday 10th July organised by Invicta East Kent Athletics Club. The children's race of 1500 metres preceded the main start at 10am. Some 300 runners, including several HBSC members, ran for a mile towards Reculver, turned West as far as Hampton and then returned to HBSC.
A surprising amount of tea and coffee was drunk before the start and this may have been why there was a very long queue stretching out of the ladies changing rooms and round the corner to the phone, which was shorted by slipway cleaners Jonathan and Carrie who invited the ladies to use the gents. Once the children were back, there was a queue for bacon and egg sandwiches (parents), coffee, cake and penny sweets (children). The adult runners started to return after just half an hour and there was a steady stream of galley orders for the next couple of hours. Thank you to those members who shopped, cooked, made lots of coffee, washed up and restocked. Clare Photographs by Liz Smith.
