With the wind blowing 16 mph and the forecast suggesting higher winds later on, only a few boats started the first race but how pleasing to see the Cat sailors out in force. Antione, Geoff, Martin, and the Sanders Babes, two Dart 18s’ one 16 and little but not slow, one Dart15.
Having missed last week due to old age and ‘Tennis elbow’ Dai was looking forward to a good sail and wasn’t going to be put off by forgetting his elbow strap and so got Doctor Geoff Greenhall to tape him up with ‘Duck Tape’ in the changing room. With his Knee supports on and his elbow taped the old boy was ready to do battle.
An excellent course set by Peter Gibson saw the Laser 2000s , the Dart fifteen and the Contender reach the windward mark quickly followed by Chris Brealy in the Albacore. Albacores, Lasers, Hornets, ISOs, Tasers, is there no stopping this Brealy chap. Someone told me he has even more boats than Roger Hodgkison, and he is thinking of buying a 505. If you want to be at the front of the fleet Chris, buy a Laser 2000 mate!
At this point Duncan Oliver had to retire because Karl (Sailing a fully rigged Laser today) had helped him sort out his spinnaker before the race. Having attached the Head to the Clew, and the Tack to the Head, this strange shaped monster got little chance to be flown down the Reach, and therefore Dai and Tom Daniels got off to a flyer, keeping up with the Cats and leaving the Albacore to gain a well earned second. Special mention to Chris Brealy’s crew, Josh Holliday for being brave enough to sail with Chris in the first place and secondly because he was sea sick all the way around the course.
In the slow fleet it was a dual between the Solo sailors and Phil Young did enough to win both races from John Ormiston. With the return of Hannah Golton, Henry Hickson and Ross Blackledge to the slow fleet it will be interesting to see how well the Solo sailors do against the flying youngsters.
In the second race the Welsh windbag got off to another flyer and could not keep up with the Sanders babes and the rest of the Cat fleet but due to some extraordinary spinnaker handling by his crew Tom Daniels he managed to get another first after chasing the ‘Silver Fox’ (Martin Poole) around the course.
Another weekend when the young Sanders girls braved the conditions to keep in touch with the other Dart sailors throughout the race and at times set the pace. Well done Freya and Alice! And a 'SPECIAL' well done to our Blind Dart 18 sailor who was first to finish over the water but because of a ridiculous handicap (Not being able to see the marks and relying on his crew Henry Hickson to point him in the right direction) ended up at the bottom of the result sheet. Well done Geoff!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Howzat mate?

Great race report Dai, keep up the good work.
Great to see the cats putting in a strong appearance.
Mark.
Great reply
Great reply to the report Mark, do you ever feel like we are the only people on the planet besides the webmaster?
Earthling, you are not alone
Dai raises a fair comment about the lack of contributions to this website (our website). I personally would like to read short reports from some of our travelers. Share some of your experiences, insights, how you rate other clubs, what we might learn etc. I'm surprised there isn't more input from the cadets or is it that you are too busy updating your Facebook entries or Twitter or whatever the next social "networking" site happens to be.
So, come on let's make this site work. But please turn your smell chequers on!
Peace and love, peace and love

Missed a good day's sailing
Great to see that the conditions made for some good sailing - better than being becalmed for most of the day at Goring!
