Main facts from this weekend
Derwent Reservoir is beautiful but a long way away.
We camped and and dad had 2 pints of the local brew. Brewed by a club member – that’s useful in a member! Dad slept through a force 6 gale, torrential rain and cold.
Saturday
Wind f4 with torrential showers all morning and into the afternoon – classic hill weather!
201 toppers arrived for 4 races back to back. The fleet was split into 4 flights, each flight racing against another. 100 boats on each start line.
Dad (Brian) said that I came of the water with a broad grin – like a Cheshire cat – results of 15, 34,22,17 meant I was 38 overnight – a Brilliant set of results placing me amongst the national squad members. During the last race I was 5th before the last beat, but me and the leaders went to the left hand side of the course and got mixed up with boats still on the run. This cost us our places.
With Sunday came sunshine and no wind! After a short delay they started the first race in 4 mph. I was lying forth at the last windward mark then got stuck in irons, hit the mark, took my 360 and got home 20th!!!!!. After this the racing was abandoned for the day. I came 37th out of 201 overall.
Then came a 7 hour drive home!!
Next weekend in Weymouth and then a weekend at the club – hoorah!!

Well done Hannah
Well done Hannah on your weekend, it does sound like you really enjoyed yourself and you managed to keep your dad to just the 2 ales!
Can't wait to read more from you. Now if we can only get Ross to tell us what he gets up to....... the challenge has been made Ross.

Great Result
Well done Hannah
For those of you who have never sailed at large events like this one, with some of the cream of Topper sailors in Britain, any position in the bottom third is good, to be in the bottom quarter is brilliant. Well done Hannah!
