THE RACE
IOS Round the Island is a long established, long distance event designed to test the sailing skills and endurance over a 40-mile course. Sailed clockwise around the island, starting and finishing at IOS Sailing Club, the race includes tidal sea, river & estuary sailing.
The event is the longest dinghy and board race in Europe. It should not be confused with so-called 24 hour races, which allow a change of helm and crew.
The race is open to all classes of dinghy, catamaran and sailboard but any boat which does not have a a PY number should contact the club beforehand and must apply before 25th August.
This year the race is on the 5th September 2009 if you want more details check out the web site www.iossc.org.uk/islandrace and it should answer any questions you may have. a group of us did this race last year and found it a awsome race and hopfully some more of us will do it again this year.
Hope to see you there!!

P.S. you also get a certificate to say you finished!
Would like to do it
Hi Paul
I think that it is something that perhaps we ought to talk about down the club with members who have sailed around the island before and hopefully get a few boats of similar speeds to enter. I do see one problem and that is that it is the weekend of the Europe Open meeting at the club and there will be a call on members to help out at that.

Round the Isle Race
Hi Paul,
I'm torn between this and the Forts race which the organizers have brilliantly scheduled for the same week-end. Unless the weather intervenes, it will have to be one or the other - actually, who am I kidding ? Two long distance races in one week-end. I think not!!

IOS Round the Island vs. Forts Race
I'm with Bruce on this one - what a dilemma. Would love to do both - round the island on saturday then forts race on sunday. I think my crew would go on strike though!
