Although there are posters up on the board some of you may have missed the fact that Tankerton are hosting an inter-club race on Sunday Aug 9th. The racing is between Tankerton, Whitstable and us. I know it's short notice but is anyone out there interested in making up a team to represent the club? Briefing is at Tankerton at 13:00 and race start is 14:00. Now that we know the way following today's cruise (big thanks to all those who crewed the safety boats). we could sail there and back. Any one up for it?

Inter club race info?
As neither Tankerton or Whitstable has any info on this event on their websites has anyone any more info on this event? I know it's very short notice but any contact numbers would be helpful as the Tankerton contact page seems to have a problem. Is there an entry fee and how much?
Any info appreciated,
Thanks

Inter club races
Hi Bruce
Sorry that as Communications Officer I could not let you, or anyone else know about this week's inter club race because nobody informed me of what was going on. I believe that a notice about the briefing and start time had gone up on the notice board but the website is the ideal place to publish such events as some members can't make it to the club every weekend. if the info is not sent through, then there is little that Gary or myself can do about it. I believe that the sailing committee have now appointed somebody to inform members of such events that were written into the original fixture list as details 'To be confirmed', and this will hopefully help.
I would also like to know why we haven't got any inter club races against Hampton Pier this year. I realise that we think we are better than them, but there has been a long history of events between the two clubs and it would be a shame to see another tradition bite the dust. I feel that we ought to be making stronger links with our neighbours in terms of regattas, social events and youth/cadet events. Perhaps an issue to be brought up at a Sailing Committee meeting?

Inter club races
Hi Dai,
Certainly no need for an apology. Of course you can't communicate the info if you ain't got it. A poster was up on the notice board but then so are a lot of other notices. I think we could do with a bit of a tidy up on that front. Following on from last month's SC meeting Paul and I were tasked with making contact with other clubs although this was more to do with organising own events. However, we both feel that we could use the opportunity to forge stronger links with other Kent clubs, or even further afield.
The Tankerton/Whitstable/Herne Bay event is a good example of how not to go about these things. An A4 poster somewhere in a club house is too passive. It needed to be promoted on websites a long time beforehand reinforced with phone contact with the other clubs. This event wasn't on either Tankertons's or Whitstable's websites either and WYC was also running its own Town Regatta.
I too hope that the Hampton event will be re-instated and will be raising this issue at tonight's SC meeting.
Hopefully this can be filed as a 'lesson learned'
