Level 1 Training Course - Start Sailing

Completely new to sailing? Then this is your starting point in learning to sail and we
will take you on a step by step introduction in learning to sail a dinghy.
We use the "RYA Method" in teaching newcomers to sail and in the Level 1 course you have an
instructor with you, or in very close attendance, at all times. The course is very "hands-on" and
much of the time is spent in the boats when conditions permit.
Over the two days of the course we will cover:
- Welcome and introduction
- Tour of the club and its facilities
- Talk on personal, boat and group safety
- Then it's out on the boats for your first sail with an instructor on the "joyride". During
this you will be shown how a boats sails and how we control it.
- Basic knots
- Talk on correct clothing to go sailing and the importance of keeping warm at all times.
- Land drill on how we turn the boat around
- What to do if she gets stuck "in irons"
- Capsize procedure
- Rigging the boats
- Sailing across the wind under supervision
- The "No Go Zone" for a dinghy
- Rules of the road
Lots to do and it's all done under close supervision whilst you gain your "sea legs".
Contact us for price enquiries of the Level 1 course
for an adult club member and for a youngster.
Hopefully, if we've done our job right, you will now want to progress onto the Level 2
course, where you will become a competent light wind sailor and able to sail a dinghy by
yourself in light winds.
