Welcome to Herne Bay Sailing Club

We are a family friendly sailing club and enjoy some of the best sailing waters on the North Kent coast.

Less than 15 minutes from the end of the M2 motorway and 45 minutes from the M25, our favourable location and our own slipway access mean that we are able to launch and recover at most states of the tide.

We have members of all ages and abilities, and anyone interested in sailing with us can be sure of receiving plenty of help and encouragement.

  • How to put the safety boat back on the trolley in various sea conditions.

Group picture of the slipway being laid in March 2009

Thanks to all those who turned up this evening (Wednesday the 14th June 2009), at a 'Drop of a Hat' to tighten up the slipway bolts, I really appreciated that guys.

Three-quarters of the slipway bolts have been re-tightened and if any group of young, old, or preferably a combination of both have the time to tighten the remainder whilst the tides are low, please do.  At present the socket-bars are behind the front door and there needs to be at least two people involved.

Thanks once again to all who turned up.

Nathan

Open Meeting - Laser 2000, Buzz and Iso classes Race Report

Buzz / ISO / Laser 2000 Open meeting at Herne Bay Sailing Club.

On the weekend of April 25th and 26th we hosted an Open Meeting for the Buzz, ISO and Laser 2000 classes.

There was an epic start to the first race on Saturday in a force 5 wind with one of the our ISO sailors causing havoc on the start line when he thought he was sailing an Ice-breaker and allegedly tried to sail through too small a gap, causing another ISO to crash into the committee boat.

There was such a bang, that the Officers on the committee boat thought Somali pirates were attacking them.

On March the 28th 2009 the slipway went down! More pictures available here

Herne Bay Sailing Club prides itself on being a club “run by members for members”, and this is never more evident than during the yearly task of laying the club’s slipway.
