Sailing (inc boats available to club members) Members are able to sail their own boats or kayaks anytime of the week during the sailing season with launch and recovery via the club’s own slipway. Safety cover is provided on Sundays during racing and Saturdays during cadet and improvers sessions. Club week in August is one of the highlights of the year: three days of dedicated cadet training and fun activities, a picnic cruise east or west and a day of racing, social sailing and socialising.
Boat Hire We have a fleet of boats for members to hire including Optibats, RS Teras, RS Q’Bas, RS Fevas and RS Visions, as well as a Wayfarer and kayaks. The hire costs for the day are £5 for a kayak, £10 for a single-handed boat and £15 for a double-handed boat.
Cruising During the summer months the cruising section regularly head out for day sails. Recent cruises have included a trip to the Thames barrier, a pub lunch in the Swale, fish and chips on Sheppey, watching the Swale Thames Barge & Smack race and a game of rounders on Minnis beach. The cruises on Saturdays are also very popular with members sailing a wide range of boats from Toppers and Lasers to Wayfarers, Cornish Crabbers and Devon Dabbers.
Racing There is competitive, good-natured sailing on Sunday afternoons from April to October, with races on Sunday mornings too from early summer onwards. Novice and cadet sailors are encouraged to join in. As well as the five main series, there are many cup races and annual events including the cadets race, the ladies race, the greybeards race (gentlemen over a certain age), the Paul Smith and Jim Newbery memorial weekend, Bart’s Bash and the RYA Push the Boat Out.
Social We have a busy calendar of social events throughout the year kicking off with the New Year’s family walk to Reculver for a Sunday lunch. The bar and galley are open during all events and after racing. Members can often be found on a Friday summer evening enjoying an impromptu BBQ with a beer while watching the fantastic sunset from the decking. Regular social events including the highly-popular curry nights and pie and mash evenings, quiz nights and the annual ladies day. The year ends with the Dinner Dance, AGM and the Boxing day Mad Hatter’s Race and mince pies. The club house is available for private hire by members and non-members for a small charge.
