Herne Bay Sailing Club 2016 Assistant Instructor training
The Club will be running an Assistant Instructor (AI) course starting on Friday 19th Feb, AI training is a minimum of 20hrs most of which is practical. However, the theory element covers/recaps the lesson delivered in the NSS L1&2 and YSS L1&3 the main purpose of the recap is to identify the key teaching points in each topic.

What is an Assistant Instructor.
The Assistant Instructor is a competent small boat sailor, who has been trained to assist Instructors with teaching sailing up to the standard of the National Sailing Certificate Level 2 & the Start Sailing stages 1,2 & 3 of the Young Sailors Scheme. An AI works alongside an Instructor  under the supervision of an RYA Senior Instructor and can assist in the practical elements of a L1&2 course and the Youth sailing Levels 1 to 3.

Prerequisites

You must be able to sail competently (to a standard that would allow you to demonstrate all practical  elements included in the NSS L2 course in light winds).
You must have completed 1 of the RYA Advanced sailing modules (If you have not done this we can run training).

You do not need
PB training.

First Aid.

It fulfills the requirements for:
  •     RYA Instructors and coaches First Aid training

Advice from Herne Bay Coastguard

12/1/2016

The local Water Safety Committee advises that our area is now under the control of DOVER CGOC (Coastguard operation centre).

You can still call THAMES COASTGUARD and this will primarily be answered by either NMOC  (National Maritime Operation Centre) or another CGOC if Dover are unavailable for any reason.

If you require any further information please contact Herne Bay Coastguard.
