August 2016 saw Herne Bay Sailing Club hosting the Hornet European Championships and welcoming back the Hornet National class after an absence of some time. If you missed it, there's a great write-up by Toby Barsley-Dale in the class magazine Mainsheet available to download below. We hope to welcome the Hornet sailors back in the not too distant future.

Here is the second write up of the Year, reporting on the Annual Walk to Reculver, starting at the Sailing Club for the Majority or if like me started my walk in Beltinge.
I didn't spot any of the Hardy Annuals until I reached Reculver and went into the Ethelbert for a Coffee and there sitting very happily was Martin Poole, the Advanced Guard, also Keeper of Keys of HBSC as he was the last to leave the Club and made sure that it was secured and there were no stragglers who may need a lift to Reculver. My walk was very quiet but as usual I managed to get a few photos en-route, whilst in the Ethelbert I was able to have a well earned cup of Coffee before going out to get photos of the Ramblers as they arrived. Charlotte, Jacob and Samuel, were the only ones to investigate the Children's Adventure Playground before heading over to the Pub to order their lunch. It was lovely to sit down and natter for a little while, take more photos and then head back to Beltinge, leaving the rest either tucking into their Lunch, chatting or, in the case of Charlotte, Jacob and Samuel, heading out the door to the Adventure Playground while they waited for their meals. Liz Smith Monday 2nd January, 2017, heralds the Commodore's Punch Up, which was deferred from Boxing Day, 2016. Members congregated at the Sailing Club to drink punch, eat Game Pie and catch up with each other, exchanging news.
However, this was not the only event of the day, for a few brave hardy souls, January 2nd was the time to take the first swim of the year. Simone Royer, Joseph Ekins, Jacob Ekins and Tom Aldwinckle were game for the first dip of the year, according to the Sailing Club Weather, it was a minimum of 7 deg C and that this I presume is the air temperature though I could be wrong, I was not prepared to check this out for myself. The dip of these hardy souls was brief as the photos will testify but full credit to them they went ahead and ran into the sea and submerged and then ran out even quicker. Liz Smith |
